Google struggles to fix its new Stadia game after shutting down its own studios

Google is struggling to fix one of its new Stadia games, having shut down its own in-house game studios earlier this month. Journey to the wild planet debuted on Stadia on February 1, the same day Google shut down its Stadia studios and fired a number of developers.

Journey to the wild planet was developed by Typhoon Studios, a studio that Google acquired to create its Stadia titles. Players of the game have found it to be riddled with bugs on Stadia, including game breaking issues that will not allow some players to get past the main menu.

Eurogamer reports that Reddit users have been complaining about the issues for weeks, and it’s unclear who will actually fix it. As Typhoon Studios employees have left Google or moved to new roles, Journey to the wild planet Stadia players have tried contacting Google and publisher 505 Games. While 505 Games released the game to other platforms, it’s Google that owns all of the code and data for the game according to a support response that Reddit users claim to have received.

It leaves gamers in awe of who is going to fix the game, and Google has stepped in to promise it is looking into the issues. “We are aware of this and our team is working diligently with our partner editor on a fix,” says the Stadia team on Twitter. A Google employee also posted on the Stadia subroutine to confirm the company is looking into the issues.

It’s unclear when a patch will be released, and the game is still provided for free as part of Google’s Stadia Pro subscription. Journey to the wild planet was one of the first games to be released by Google’s Stadia Games and Entertainment internal development organization. It is now shaping up to be a memorable last.
