GOOGLE has to move production of its "Made By Google" products, including the Pixel range, in Vietnam to circumvent the current trade war between the United States and China.
The Pixel range has so far been manufactured in China, but Nikkei reports that production will now be transferred to an old Nokia factory in Vietnam. We do not know who will be his new manufacturing partner, but Bloomberg suggests that it is likely FIH Mobile, a division of Foxconn who bought Nokia's installation when Microsoft decided to deny its ambitions in mobile hardware.
The first handset to make this change will be Pixel 3a, the budget version of the company's flagship product, whose production is expected to change before the end of 2019.
The Pixel 4 range will be produced in China, at least for the moment, probably because the deal was concluded before the ban. Just this week, it was confirmed that Google could not provide Huawei with its licensed version of Android because of the ban, questioning the success of its Mate 30 lineup, which should come out at same time as the Pixel 4,.
Elsewhere, other companies are also looking to make themselves. It seems that Apple is seeking to transfer part of its contracts to a company in India.
As for Google, it seems not to be discouraged by the sluggish sales of the Pixel 3 range, with the exception of Pixel 3a which has won praise for offering a product almost identical to half the price.
By creating a reliable and cheap supply chain, Google hopes to increase its production and consolidate the Pixel brand as a significant market player.
The Pixel is designed to be a number opposite to that of the Apple iPhone and, although its cost price is higher, it offers faster updates of the latest operating system and a long-lasting support. μ
