Google TV, the new Smart TV interface that debuted on Google’s most recent Chromecast, appears to be receiving a small but important tweak for its “Keep Watching” line. On Reddit (via 9to5Google) user u / Alfatango97 spotted a new option to manually hide line entries, which is designed to allow viewers to quickly jump back to unfinished TV shows or movies.
When it works, the Continue Watching line is a convenient way to pick up where viewing left off. But sometimes it can get crowded with content that you have started watching and don’t intend to complete, or content that is finished but has so long credits that it still appears to be in progress. Being able to manually erase the line should make it easier to see the shows and movies you actually want to end.
This is the latest example of Google’s two TV interfaces – Android TV and Google TV – slowly converging. 9to5Google Note that the ability to manually prune titles from the “keep watching” list has been available in Android TV for some time, it just moved to Google TV. Meanwhile, Android TV received a slew of updates that made it look more and more like Google TV. Convergence seems inevitable given that Google TV is expected to replace Android TV within the next two years.
9to5Google note that the feature is not yet widely deployed. We’ve reached out to Google to ask when it should be available for everyone, and we’ll update this article if we have a response.
