Microsoft Windows 7 was first released over a decade ago, and although it has been superseded by Windows 8, 8.1, and 10, it is still widely used in enterprise deployments. Google originally planned to stop providing Chrome for Windows 7 from 2021, but plans have now been pushed back to 2022.

Microsoft ended general support for Windows 7 on January 14, 2020, but the company is still providing security updates to business customers. Google previously announced that it would continue to update Chrome on Windows 7 at least until July 15, 2021, giving business customers an additional 18 months from Microsoft’s deadline to upgrade their computers. The company is now pushing back the threshold by six months, to January 15, 2022.

“Migrating to Windows 10 was on many organizations’ roadmap for the year,” Google wrote in a blog post. “But as new priorities for IT teams have emerged, we’ve heard that 21% of businesses are still migrating to Windows 10. With this support extension, businesses whose upgrades are still in the works. courses can rest assured that their users will stay on Windows 7 will continue to reap the security and productivity benefits of Chrome. “

Even though Chrome itself will continue to support Windows 7, browsers and other Chromium-based apps may choose to remove the aging OS earlier. Microsoft was planning to support its new Edge browser on Windows 7 until July 15, 2021.
