Google will soon let you automatically delete your location tracking data

Google introduces a new feature for your Google Account that will allow you to automatically delete your location history and your web and app activity data after a specified period of time. You will be able to delete the data after three or 18 months, and will continue to be deleted on an ongoing basis.

The search giant's location tracking practices were a problem last year when it became apparent that Google would continue to follow you even when you turn off the Location History setting. In order to completely prevent tracking of your location, you must explore your settings to also disable the "Web Activity and Applications" setting. The feature announced today removes the data for both, which means that it should cover every bit of location history that Google keeps on you.

Google announces that this new feature will be deployed worldwide "in the coming weeks" and that it will be available in addition to the existing options allowing you to delete this data manually. The company also states that the location history and web and application activity data are the first two bits of user data for which the feature will be available, suggesting that the following is the case: option may soon be available for more data.
