As we work on our long list of Android 12 tasks, we have another curious detail to share. Partially aligning with earlier rumors that Google would replace the popular At A Glance widget built into the Google app and the company’s pixel launcher, the latest beta shows it has been tweaked. Visually, things haven’t changed much, but Android 12 Beta 3 is launching the new Live Space widget, replacing At A Glance.

Left: Beta 2. Right: Beta 3. Note the name change.

The only visual change seems to be a very slight adjustment to the date punctuation in the widget and a small adjustment to the size and boldness of the text – although the latter may simply be the result of a comparison between two devices. different. The associated submenus in the Pixel Launcher are unchanged (and they or they still call it the At A Glance widget, conflicting with the root menu “Home Settings”). The separate widget provided by the Google app still has the old name in the widget selector.

Above: 2/3 beta comparison of the widget itself. Below: The Google app widget still has the old name attached to it, which Google is capitalizing inconsistently.

We knew the name “Live Space” was coming, and previous teardowns indicated both a reworking of how you think about its various features and some sort of new physical retailer / store integration – potentially tied in with a visual overhaul of the. widget also. However, none of this appears to be live yet. Considering how many versions are left before Android 12 becomes stable, we’ll likely see more soon.
