As many of you already know, Bluetooth on Chromebooks has never really been a stronghold of the ecosystem. While the arrival of Bluetooth 5 has helped a lot, the overall experience on Chrome OS has always been a bit hit and miss when it comes to wireless accessories. Overall, while the process and settings screens are still a bit messy, I was able to get things to work quite decently on my Chromebook when needed, and sometimes devices are so solid to connect that I completely forget that bluetooth is not This is not a Chromebook strength.
Compared to other operating systems, however, Chrome OS still feels distinctly behind in this department. As we recently took a look at the Pixel Buds A series, one thing that happened in the out of the box process that I still tend to forget on a regular basis was the quick pair setup prompts. . As soon as I opened the Pixel Buds the prompt hit my OnePlus 8T and I was logged in, up and running in seconds. It’s a really nice touch and part of the modern Bluetooth experience that I really love.

Bluetooth Quick Pair for Chromebooks
We’ve talked a lot about Fast Pair and Chromebooks, and the most recent mentions have shown that an indicator is in the works to bring this feature to life sooner rather than later. After stumbling across this post on our site today, I decided to switch to the Chrome OS 94 developer channel and see if the flag was ready to go. And to my surprise, it was! Not only that, as soon as I activated it (chrome: // flags / # fast-pair in the same way chrome: // flags / # bluetooth-advertisement-monitoring) and reset Chrome OS, I put my Pixel Buds into pairing mode and what you see below is the result.
Now before you get too excited I have to clarify that pairing never actually ended. Pairing them in the most standard way worked well, but the new Fast Pair method is still definitely in the testing phase. However, it’s now clear what the UI will look like when everything’s up and running, and I was pleasantly surprised to see my Chromebook support the nearby device as quickly as my OnePlus 8T. Once it works as it should, pairing accessories with your Chromebook will be easier than ever!

Note that if you want to give it a try, you need to be in the Chrome OS developer channel and enable the two flags I noted above. It is possible that other Chromebooks will have the option to make this work, but I don’t have access to any other Chromebooks that I can deposit in the Developer Channel at this time. It’s relatively easy to get into the developer channel and go back to Stable if you want to give this a try, don’t forget to back up your local files first and let me know if any of you are successful in doing so. fully function.
