Rivet, a new application created by Google, uses technology and voice processing to help children who have trouble learning to read.
The application uses advanced voice technology to offer an integrated wizard that helps children when they fall on a word. Rivet includes over 2,000 free books.
If a child is unable to read a word, he can click on it to hear it. The child can also choose to pronounce the word aloud and indicate which parts of his pronunciation need to be improved.
The application offers translations of more than 25 languages to help children whose mother tongue is not their mother tongue.
Parents can use the "Follow-up" mode for young readers. The mode allows children to listen to stories when words are highlighted on the screen.
Although there are several reading apps for kids, Rivet is interesting because of its use of voice processing.
According to Google, Ben Turtel, Head of Technology and Products Rivet, Google created this application because she wanted to make reading a fundamental skill.
The application is available on iOS App Store and Google Play Store.
