The Pixel Buds 2 weren’t perfect, but for Google’s first attempt at true wireless headphones, there was a lot to love about them. We already knew Google was working hard on two new pairs of headphones, thanks to the FCC listings uncovered last week. Thanks to a new leak, we have a better idea of the next set of Pixel Buds slated for release later this year.

According to a 9to5Google report, these new headphones will be called the “Pixel Buds A” and will retain the same appearance as last year’s model. They’ll also sport the same great touchscreen controls that we praised in our review. The Pixel Buds A will be available in white and green versions, the latter opting for a much darker color than the “Quite Mint” shade used in 2020. These buttons deposit the black plastic of the tips and the interior of the case, changing to uniform color unique to both models. While pricing is unknown at this time, the “A” indicator implies a more affordable addition to the Pixel Buds line, following the same naming scheme as Google’s line of phones.

It’s still unclear when the Pixel Buds A might launch, but last week’s FCC listings seem to point to a mid-year refresh. Since this isn’t the only leak coming from Google’s hardware division, the company’s next launch event could be in a few weeks.
