In an interview with The Salt Lake Tribune, GOP congressman-elect Burgess Owens of Utah said on Thursday that he would support President-elect Joe Biden’s challenge of presidential victory in the House and asserted that there was “no question” that President Donald Trump was re-elected for a second term.
Owens, a staunch Trump supporter and keynote speaker at the 2020 Republican National Convention, said he believed Trump won the election, despite Biden getting 306 Electoral College votes against 232 Trump electoral votes and won over 7 million more votes than the president. .
“There’s no question in my mind that I think he won,” Owens said.

His comments come as Congress is set to certify Electoral College results on January 6, with many GOP lawmakers, including Sen. Josh Hawley, choosing to challenge the election results.
Owens, a former NFL player, compared the Republican effort to his football days.
“In 10 years in the NFL, I’ve played a lot of losing games,” he said. “If you leave everything on the pitch and have done all you can and there’s nothing left, then it’s a winning game regardless of the score.”
Owens said the Electoral College challenge was “the right thing to do” because “over seventy percent of Conservatives say it [election] is not fair ”and their views deserve to be heard, according to the Tribune.
The elected congressman claimed that 42,000 votes were incorrectly added to the final vote total in Nevada, an allegation state officials strongly denied.
Owens also said that after living in Pennsylvania, “the Democratic Party did things” in the state that were not “fair,” but provided no solid evidence of any electoral misconduct in the election. presidential election of 2020.
“My goal is basically to make sure that I am doing everything I can to bring this to all the legal purposes that we have,” he added. “And once the official tally is over, we will respect whoever the president is.”
Since November, Trump’s legal team has contested the election across the country, triggering a series of high-profile but extremely unsuccessful lawsuits to overturn the election results.
