Republican governors on Wednesday unveiled a 10-point plan to end the southern border crisis, calling on the Biden administration to act to address the continued influx of migrants and reverse policies they say are fueling those numbers record.

“President Joe Biden has caused a humanitarian crisis and chaos on our border,” Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said in Mission, Texas, along with eight other governors. “All Americans saw what happened in Del Rio, Texas last month and we know the chaos will repeat itself unless and until President Biden takes action.”

HOME REPUBLICS DEMAND BIDEN’S TRANSPARENCY ON THE CRISIS AT “OUT OF CONTROL” BORDERS

“The president must act, he can no longer ignore this humanitarian and national security crisis,” said Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts.

The Biden administration has faced a massive surge in the number of migrants at the border throughout the year, with more than 200,000 migrants crossing the border in July and August. In September, he faced a crisis in Del Rio, where more than 15,000 mostly Haitians gathered under the International Bridge.

While the Biden administration blamed root causes like poverty, corruption and violence in Central America for the surge, as well as the end of legal asylum routes by the Trump administration, Republicans blamed the pullback by the Biden administration of the policies of the Trump era.

“It’s no longer a secret,” Arizona Governor Doug Ducey said. “They created this crisis and the Americans know it.”

Governors unveiled a 10-point plan to reverse the crisis, including actions they said Biden could take with the stroke of a pen. It includes the full restoration of the Trump-era Migrant Protection Protocols (MPPs) – which kept migrants in Mexico for their immigration procedures. The administration was recently ordered by a federal court to revive the policy.

Separately, the governors are calling for an end to “capture and release”, more construction of border walls, an extension of Title 42 evictions, the deployment of more federal law enforcement at the border and that the administration provide more resources to keep the border secure.

In his remarks, Abbott also took direct aim at DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas: “Secretary Mayorkas is a disaster at what he has done and no one should trust what he says.”

Earlier today, Republican senators held a press conference, in which they also blamed the Biden administration for the border crisis – and called on him to reconsider his decisions which they said had aggravated the crisis.

“It’s a humanitarian crisis, it’s a public health crisis, it’s a national security crisis, and Joe Biden and [Vice President] Kamala Harris won’t do anything about it, ”said Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas.
