GOP Rep Cawthorn says he wants to ‘sue’ Fauci

Cawthorn’s remark underlines how Fauci has become a central part of the GOP’s attacks on the Biden administration and the government’s handling of the coronavirus, even as the delta variant sweeps unvaccinated communities and it becomes more and more clear that vaccinations are the key to crush the disease.

Cawthorn made the remarks during an interview with the Conservative news site Just the News on Real America’s Voice.

He also accused Fauci of being a “Chinese Communist Party pawn” and suggested that he could be prosecuted for lying to Congress about the research into the office.

“I will tell you that when we take back the majority in 2022, I will make sure that the consequences are distributed,” Cawthorn said.

“We want to prosecute this guy with the full capacity of the law. And I’m going to tell you, lie to the American people just to get your name to make the headlines, just to put your face on the covers of the books, just to get fame and fortune. I will tell you that Dr Anthony Fauci deserves neither fame nor fortune, ”he continued.

Fauci has been a public servant for decades and has been applauded by members of both parties over the years for his work on a host of infectious diseases, including AIDS.

But his work was politicized by right-wing figures, and Cawthorn’s arguments echoed those of His. Paul baselessly accused the National Institutes of Health of funding gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, which has come under scrutiny because it is believed to be a possible source of the coronavirus. Fauci has repeatedly denied these allegations.

Paul and Fauci had a heated exchange over the claim at a hearing on Tuesday, which resulted in Fauci saying Paul “didn’t know” what he was talking about.

“Sen. Paul, you don’t know what you’re talking about, and I mean it officially,” Fauci said.
