After President Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 presidential election, Trump and his allies have repeatedly claimed without evidence that the election was stolen due to widespread electoral fraud. They have been pushing for audits in major swing states, and Trump has been accused of pressuring officials to help him make his claims.

The Editorial Board highlighted an interim report from the Senate Judiciary Committee released Thursday showing how Trump “attempted to overthrow the Department of Justice to overturn a legitimate election.”

“The Senate Judiciary Committee’s interim report shows how Trump’s Jan. 6 incitement of a crowd of his supporters to attack the Capitol was only his most publicly visible attempt to overturn an election he clearly lost, ”the editorial read. “In the preceding days, Trump had been maneuvering behind the scenes, trying to arm his Justice Department to validate his already refuted allegations of voter fraud.”

Among the report’s findings, Trump apparently “repeatedly” asked the Justice Department leadership to endorse his claims that the election was stolen and to “aid him in his efforts to overturn the election results. “.
