Gorillas make hilarious attempts to avoid rain at South Carolina Zoo in viral video

A viral video from a zoo in South Carolina showed a group of gorillas behaving like humans while they were trying to shelter from the rain.

The primates of the Columbia Riverbanks and Zoo Garden were seen snuggling under an overhang. Each of the two female gorillas hugged a baby while they were all cautiously seeking an escape to a drier soil.

"Gorillas are beautiful and majestic creatures, full of grace and beauty … except when it's raining," Brooke Hunsinger, a Zoo video, said on Facebook.

"Gorillas are magnificent and majestic creatures, full of grace and beauty … except when it is raining."

A brave gorilla, called Acacia, has hugged the overhanging wall in an effort to minimize moisture and is positioned around a corner in the shelter of the rain. As the three remaining gorillas followed, each formed a human face to show his disgust at getting wet.

Some social media users have suggested sending umbrellas to the gorillas.

The male-backed silver-backed gorilla, Cenzoo, waited for the females, Macy and Kazi, and their babies, Mo and ZaKota, to go into the dry zone before leaving the overhang itself. The zoo responded that if there was a hierarchy among the women, "all the bets were valid" because all the gorillas wanted to stay dry.

The video has been viewed almost 8 million times since Hunsinger posted it on May 3rd.
