ATLANTA – Channel 2 action news has learned that Governor Brian Kemp is in quarantine after being exposed to COVID-19.

A spokesperson for the governor said Kemp was exposed to a person infected with the virus during a tornado damage visit to Newnan on Saturday.

The governor tested negative for the virus on Monday.

Kemp received the single injection vaccine from Johnson & Johnson on Friday during a visit to Waycross. He went to South Georgia to get his shot on purpose because he wanted to urge people there to get the shot.

State statistics show vaccination numbers south of Macon are pretty grim.

Kemp said if people don’t start getting vaccinated in South Georgia, he will start sending the allocated doses to other parts of the state where there is continued demand.

TRENDING STORIES:

Despite the vaccine, you can still receive COVID-19 even after receiving the vaccine.

It takes about two weeks after your last dose of vaccine for you to be considered fully immunized.

This is why many doctors are still warning people that vaccinations are going up, not to let your guard down.
