Graduates protest against Mike Pence's opening speech in Indiana

UPLAND, Indiana – Dozens of graduates and teachers have protested Vice President Mike Pence's choice as the keynote speaker at Taylor University, Indiana, walking a few moments before his introduction.

The Indianapolis Star reported that protesters in bonnets and dresses stood up and walked into the aisle and out of the Kesler Student Activity Center auditorium. University of Upland, in Indiana.

The event was planned and discussed before Saturday's ceremony. Some professors and students of the Christian non-denominational liberal arts school debated the relevance of the former governor of Indiana at the opening ceremony.

Most of Taylor's graduates have not left. Pence received a standing ovation.

Graduate Laura Rathburn said, "The presence of Pence makes it difficult for everyone in Taylor to feel welcome."
