Senator Lindsey Graham, RS.C., called President-elect Joe Biden “legally” elected and urged his colleagues in the Senate “Enough is enough” regarding the allegations of voter fraud.
Graham has at times criticized President Trump, but he has often been a close ally during his presidency.
The senator’s remarks came as the Senate voted on certification of the electoral college votes hours after a group of Trump supporters violated the Capitol, forcing an evacuation.
He said that if he supported the right of his colleagues to oppose the election results, he would not support him and felt that it was “a single bad idea to delay this election”.
Trump has been a “consistent” president, Graham said, “but today … count on me. Enough is enough.”
“When it’s over, it’s over. It’s over,” he added emphatically.

He said that even if he disagreed, he would accept the rulings of judges in contested battlefield states and suggested that the allegations of voter fraud had been exaggerated.
“They say there are 66,000 people in Georgia under the age of 18 who voted. How many people believe that? I asked, ‘Give me 10.’ I didn’t have one,” he said. he said in an example.

He added that Vice President Mike Pence would do the “constitutional thing” despite Trump and some supporters claiming he has the power to annul the election.
“As a conservative, it is the most offensive concept in the world that one person could deprive 155 million people of their rights,” he said. “For those conservatives who believe in the constitution, now is your chance to stand up and be counted.”

He said while hoping Biden would lose the election, “He won. He is the rightful president. [elect] the United States.”
He added that he considered it particularly important for him to say: “Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are legally elected and will become president and vice president of the United States on January 20”.
While some have noted their surprise at Graham’s separation from the president following the election, some conservatives have noted that he has not always been in agreement with Trump.

In 2015, Graham, who had been an opponent of Trump in the Republican primary, tweeted “If we name Trump, we will be destroyed … and we will deserve it.” Graham has also worked with Biden in the Senate and considers him a friend.
