“Kudos to @harrisonjaime on being selected as @DNC President,” Graham said in a tweet. “It’s a great honor and I have no doubts that he will do a good job representing the Democratic cause. Jaime will be a formidable opponent.”
Harrison challenged Graham in the 2020 general election, grabbing the nation’s attention and raising $ 109 million in his candidacy. However, the incumbent Republican defeated the Democratic challenger by around 10 points on election night in November.
But Harrison is still considered a formidable fundraiser and connected within Democratic Party circles. He previously served as president of the Democratic Party of South Carolina from 2013 to 2017.
If chosen by Biden, Harrison will face the task of defending narrow majorities in the House and Senate in 2022 under Biden’s administration. Thirty-four Senate seats and the 435 House seats will be re-elected.
Harrison said last November that he would consider leading the DNC if offered the job.
“I can’t betray any conversation with Whip, but I know it’s something he seems to think I could do.” I would put it that way, ”said Harrison, referring to his backing from House Majority Whip James Clyburn (DS.C.), who had pushed him for the role.
“If it’s something they’re interested in, I’m definitely going to take a look,” he said.
