The weekendThe Grammys snob had nothing to do with playing the Super Bowl … at least according to the Recording Academy chief.
Harvey Mason Jr. – Academy President and Interim CEO – says: “We understand that The Weeknd is disappointed not to be nominated. I was surprised and I can understand how he feels. His music this year was excellent.”
He adds that the Grammys had no problem with him performing at the Super Bowl and would have loved him to perform for the awards show as well. TMZ broke history … negotiations for The Weeknd’s Grammy Awards performance were unpleasant, and our sources say he received an ultimatum – to play for us or for the Super Bowl.
As for Weeknd receiving no appointment – Mason claims that there was nothing harmful about that. He says: “To be clear, voting in all categories ended long before The Weeknd’s Super Bowl performance was announced, so that in no way could have affected the nomination process.”
As we reported … it was revealed that The Weeknd will be doing the SB Halftime Show on November 12th. The Grammys point out that the deadline to vote for the names was in October. Mason is adamant that no one was upset by the singer’s prospect occurring at both events … because the Grammys come first.
Mason also says that he is “saddened” by The Weeknd and his team by saying that “the Grammys remain corrupt”. He said … “I’m trying to figure out where this is coming from, but it was hard to hear.”
Despite the apparent damage control, it looks like this controversy isn’t going away anytime soon. The manager of the Weeknd, Sal Slaiby, also criticized “corrupt leaders” at the Grammys and demanded transparency.
Braun scooter piled high, tweeting that Sal and The Weeknd deserved to be nominated and deserved better.
