The noted jazz drummer Lawrence Leathers was found dead in front of a Bronx apartment.

The 37-year-old musician was found Sunday in a stairwell in front of the apartment he shared with Lisa Harris, 41, police said.

Leathers was involved in a physical conflict with Harris and a man, the police said. Harris hit Leathers and Sterling Aguilar, 28, of Brooklyn, placed him in a choking suit, police said.

Leathers was declared dead on the scene.

Harris and Aguilar were arrested Monday on charges of assault. It was not clear if they had lawyers.

Leathers, originally from Lansing, Michigan, worked on two Grammy Award-winning Cecile McLorin Salvant albums, which published a link on Leathers on Instagram.

Drummer E.J. Strickland remembered Leathers on Instagram as "one of the most musical, swingers and the most honest drummers out there."
