Grammys 2021: Recording Academy criticized for ‘disaster’ album of the year nominations

This year’s Album of the Year category has become a subject of controversy on social media, where some have expressed disappointment and confusion.

Taylor Swift for her album is up for the coveted award Folklore, Dua Lipa for Nostalgia for the future, Post Malone for Hollywood bleeding, Haim for Women in Music Pt III, Coldplay for Daily life, Jacob Collier for Djesse Vol 3, Black Pumas for Black Pumas (Deluxe Edition), and Jhené Aiko for The beast.

While fans of the nominated artists rejoiced, others wondered why artists such as BTS, Lady Gaga or The Weeknd were not included in the selection.

BTS Soul Card: 7 was released in February 2020, during next year’s Grammy eligibility period, with considerable commercial success.

Gaga Chromatica, released in May 2020, also met the eligibility criteria, as did The Weeknd’s After hours, published in March of this year.

The 2021 Grammys will take place on January 31 and Trevor Noah will host the ceremony. For a full list of nominations, click here.
