In an interview with Game Rant, RDR2 actor Arthur Morgan, Roger Clark, gives his take on Rockstar Games’ approach to Grand Theft Auto 6.
next Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar Games would take a more phased approach to its future development endeavors. This means that large-scale productions like Red Dead Redemption 2 may not come out at the same time as fans expect, but rather in pieces. This is the hope that Rockstar is approaching Grand Theft Auto 6, which means the game could be very different from other Rockstar titles. Roger Clark, the Arthur Morgan actor who spent five years working on Rockstar Games’ open-world western game, expressed really cautious hope for Rockstar’s new approach to development.

Obviously, playing with a set formula for any game can mean life or death for fans, and if it does, Grand Theft Auto 6The distant release date means fans will be waiting and seeing how this change plays out in the long run. However, it’s good that Rockstar Games is making changes to improve the lives of their employees, although the result may mean that new games will be released in much different states.
The future of Grand Theft Auto
Over the past few months and years, Rockstar Games has shifted and shifted several aspects of management in an effort to help alleviate the crisis, such as flexible scheduling plans for developers to establish better working hours. However, an important element to take away from this change was a new approach to development. For the next Rockstar Games Grand Theft Auto project, the game would “start with a mid-sized version … which is then expanded with regular updates over time, which can help alleviate stress and crisis.”
Starting with something more “midsize” has never really been Rockstar Games’ modus operandi, but there could be a future in incremental releases for a game, especially in the world of next-gen experiences and still active. For Arthur Morgan actor Roger Clark, who has dedicated much of his life to delivering one of the most ambitious iterations of long-form storytelling in games, he expressed a sense that there is a real promise in the progressive development of the game:
“[It’s] hard to say yet. Some of the positive things I’ve seen done is that players will see new titles released more frequently. Story add-ons are a fascinating premise, they could introduce a serial aspect to in-game storylines much closer to TV narratives. Cliffhangers would undoubtedly become a tool of history. “
A potential outcome could be that Grand Theft Auto 6 launches into two separate branches, single player and multiplayer, each receiving consistent updates for as long as possible / necessary. Obviously, the next version of Grand Theft Auto Online would probably get more attention, but adding more articles as updates could be an interesting approach. After all, the fans have been demanding RDR2 DLC for some time. Returning to the Liberty City episodes DLC for Grand Theft Auto 4, perhaps Grand Theft Auto 6The main story can be broken down into specific chapters or character arcs. Either way, Clark expresses his confidence in Rockstar Games:
“One thing Rockstar has a proven track record in is being able to have an IP address to satisfy gamers who enjoy both story-based worlds and playing online with their friends. Add-ons mean players will be able to customize their own game like never before., according to their own preferences … Now all players who prefer story mode would have the opportunity to extend their enjoyment to a game like never before. “
Games like RDR2 may not be possible in Rockstar’s immediate future
Episodic content like Life is strange is not really something in rock star gameswheelhouse, but a new approach could kill two birds with one stone: help reduce and ease stress with a shorter / less ambitious development cycle, while paving the way for a new narrative design. However, from Clark’s perspective, he thinks long-running storytelling in games like Red Dead Redemption 2 less feasible:
“I don’t see how all of this will play out, but it does make epic, longer storylines like Red Dead Redemption 2 less likely in the future. At least on day one of a release, but so many exciting possibilities will replace that. From an actor’s point of view, I think [that approach] has a lot of potential. “
For now, that’s an interesting point of speculation about the future of Rockstar Games. With Dan Houser, one of Rockstar’s key creatives, who retired earlier this year, Grand Theft Auto 6 could be the first of many games under this new approach to development, and it could prove to be the real test of this philosophy and its impact on games like RDR2.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
