An Indiana man charged with the death of his 18-month-old granddaughter after falling 150 feet from a cruise ship in Puerto Rico will not serve jail time.
Salvatore “Sam” Anello, 51, who pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide in October in the death of Chloe Wiegand in 2019, was sentenced to three years probation Monday by a San Juan judge.

Anello’s attorney said his client would serve his probation at his home in Indiana.
Anello was with his family aboard the Royal Caribbean Freedom of the Seas cruise ship in July 2019 when his granddaughter passed away.
He said he was not drinking and was not hanging the toddler by the window, as some reports claimed shortly after the incident.
The ship was moored in San Juan at the time.
GRANDFATHER WHO DROPPED TODDLER TALKS AFTER TRAGIC INCIDENT
He told authorities he lifted Chloe to the window of a children’s playground on the ship and was unaware the window was open when she fell overboard.
The girl’s parents have a pending lawsuit against Royal Caribbean.
