Thursday morning, country singer Granger Smith shared the "unthinkable news" that his 3 year old son, Kelly Smith River, was dead.
"I have to deliver some unthinkable news, we lost our youngest son, River Kelly Smith," said the 39-year-old star on Instagram and Twitter. "After a tragic accident and despite all the efforts of the doctor, he could not be revived."
Although the singer of "Backroad Song" did not give much details about the "tragic accident of his son", a representative of the country star confirmed the cause of the death of River in People. The 3-year-old girl "died in a tragic drowning accident at home," a representative told the publication in a statement.
In the heartbreaking announcement of Granger, he stated that he and his wife Amber Bartlett "made the decision to say our last goodbyes and donate his organs so that other children have a second chance to live."
"Our family is devastated and heartbroken, but we are reassured to know that he is with his heavenly Father, Riv was special, and everyone who met him knew it immediately," he said. "The joy that he has brought to our lives can not be expressed and his light will be forever in our hearts."
