DOUGLASS, KS (CNN) – A Kansas family says their dog is suffering a lot after a mail carrier hit him with his car.

The US Postal Service is behind what happened while the Labrador Black Retriever is recovering.

Warning: the video you are going to see shows the dog being hit, and that is graphic.

These are sounds and images that the Howerton say they never forget.

Their black lab, "Blue," had been hit by the courier vehicle on Thursday morning, and the help he had had was gone.

"I could never have left a dog like this, I would have felt horrible," Shannon Howerton said.

A few hours later, the family discovered that he was injured. They say that everyone guessed what had happened.

"His ear on his hip, we thought that he might have gone into a dog fight," said Howerton.

Until they reached the veterinarian.

"She said that it definitely seemed to have been hit by a car," said Howerton.

The couple said that they then checked the home surveillance images and that it was at that point that they saw the impact and what happened before the departure of the factor.

"He got in his car and she kept shouting at him, which made him even more fearful," Howerton said.

The Howerton quickly filed a police report and contacted the post office to file a complaint.

The USPS said that these actions are not consistent and do not represent postal service values and that an investigation is underway.

The Howerton say that they understand that porters may be worried about animals, but her actions do not suggest that she was scared.

"I know you can still have some worries. Some people are just scared of dogs, but I do not think she's afraid of the dog,"

The Howerton say that they have about $ 600 in veterinary bills, but that considering what has happened, they should not have to pay. They also want the carrier to be fired.
