Evanescence has announced a new series of graphic novels, Void Echoes. The five-volume fantasy anthology features stories based on themes taken from the band’s songs.
The first track – written by Carrie Lee South and Blake Northcott, illustrated by Abigail Larson and Kelly McKernan – is inspired by “Better Without You” and the recent single “Wasted on You”, which will appear on their upcoming fifth album, Bitter truth.
“I’m so excited about this series of projects,” Evanescence singer Amy Lee said in a release from the anthology, which is part of Incendium’s OPUS imprint. “The possibilities are endless. Collaborating through art forms like this is so unique, and it has been fascinating to see how many different lives a song can have, like alternate realities. I can’t wait to work there. above throughout the year and I am very honored to open up this new world for our music.
Lee took an active role in the series, overseeing the creative direction of the stories and illustrations. The first print of each issue will be sold as a limited edition comic book, limited to 3,000 copies each. The first is available for pre-order now and, according to the Incendium website, will ship in June. A limited edition luminescent lithograph is also available for pre-order.
Bitter truth, released on March 26, is the first Evanescence album of new material since their self-titled 2011 album. “The energy was just amplified,” Lee said. Rolling stone in November, detailing their last recording sessions. “We were in there on fire. Now the guys are back home, and I’m wading through the legacy of all the music, putting it back together and finalizing it.
She noted that the pandemic lockdown gave the group more time to “buckle down” and focus. “Even on days when I don’t want to,” she said, “I go out here and say, ‘Let’s do this. Let’s finish the album. ‘”
