Gray Raven is a gacha action RPG with graphics that really impressed me

We learned Last week that the latest high-profile gacha game Punishing: Gray Raven would hit Android in North America, Europe, Southeast Asia, and Australia on July 16. Well, after a brief pre-load period over the past 24 hours, the game’s servers are now live which means the game is officially available. This is an action RPG, somewhat similar to titles from miHoYo Limited. Essentially, the game offers the graphical polish of Genshin Impact paired with the gameplay of Honkai Impact. It’s a sight to see, even though it’s still a game of gacha, so all the expected downsides of the genre are present as well.

If you haven’t heard of Punishing: Gray Raven yet, you can check out the trailer above. As you can see, this action RPG offers some really nice cell-shaded graphics, which suits the sci-fi theme perfectly. The combat is quick and smooth (although doge can respond faster), and while the overall game design plays out quite similar to Honkai Impact, you can expect a few tweaks, like a button-press mechanic. in a corresponding order will perform powerful movements. It adds a bit of strategy to the gameplay, so you can’t just deal with the content of the game.

Once the game is fully installed, it takes up around 2.2 GB of storage. Optimization seems to be pretty good, and so my ROG 5 runs the game smoothly without ever getting too hot. Unfortunately, there is no controller support. Neither Bluetooth controllers nor wired controllers worked. That means you’ll have to play around with the touchscreen interface, which luckily works quite well, and you can customize the layout to better suit your device and the positioning of your hand. Of course, this is a free title and a gacha game, so it’s all about acquiring new characters, which is why in-game in-game purchases go up to $ 99.99 per article. After all, why release a new gacha game unless there is a way for customers to bet their money on new waifus?

So this is it. Punishing: Gray Raven is now available in North America, Europe, Southeast Asia, and Australia. It’s a very polished action RPG that offers exemplary graphics and interesting action combat, but since it’s also a gacha game, it is aggressively monetized, although customer reviews mention that it is F2P compatible. So at least the fans are feeling good about their prints so far. If you’d like to take a peek to see for yourself how the game stacks up against the competition, you can grab the free install from the Play Store widget below.
