The San Francisco 49ers have retained two of their top three priorities as a free agent: fullback Kyle Juszczyk and cornerback Jason Verrett. The team haven’t been able to lock down the other – tackle Trent Williams – but work to finalize a deal continues, according to ESPN’s Dan Graziano.

Whether or not the 49ers can re-sign Williams could have an impact on the team’s entire off-season record.

The 49ers have reportedly made multiple offers, so far unsuccessful. The fact that Williams remains available is a good sign, however. That means no other team has made an offer tempting enough for the eight-time Pro Bowl offensive lineman to declare his time in San Francisco as over.

Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer wrote earlier today that he expects Williams to return to the 49ers. However, it won’t be cheap. The offensive lineman is expected to cost over $ 20 million per season.

“I think he will stay in San Francisco,” Breer wrote in his MMQB column. “But I don’t think the Niners will get there without paying more than they probably thought when they traded for him in last year’s draft, and as a result I’ve heard that ‘they were willing to go $ 20 million a year to keep it. “

The 49ers traded to Williams, 32, last year after the offensive lineman took a year out of football. Williams had an impressive 2020 campaign and was Pro Football Focus’s highest tackle and second-highest offensive lineman.

Williams allowed four sacks last season, but none have come in their last nine games.
