Great Hill Partners agrees to acquire the Gizmodo Media Group

Private equity firm Great Hill Partners has agreed to acquire Gizmodo Media Group from Univision Communications Inc., the two companies announced, ending the incursion of the Spanish-language broadcaster into English-language digital media.

James Spanfeller, former executive director of Forbes.com and president of consumer magazines for digital publisher Ziff Davis, will become managing director of G / O Media Inc., a new company created from these assets. Gizmodo Media Group includes the sites Gizmodo, The Onion, Jezebel, Deadspin and Lifehacker.
