China: Explosion in a chemical plant in Sichuan

A strong chemical explosion in China killed 19 people, while 12 others were wounded, authorities said. The mbadive disaster adds to a series of lethal industrial accidents in China, the country that is the world's largest producer of chemicals.

It is not yet known what caused the explosion of Thursday afternoon at the Yibin Hengda plant a park southeast of Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province (south- west), Jiangan County authorities reported.

The wounded are in a state of equilibrium while the authorities are conducting an investigation, reported the official New China news agency
