The fountain of Rimondi
The controversial monument, on the cover of the newspaper, is the Rimondi fountain in the center of Rethymno (the "Vryakia").
It was built in 1926 by the Venetians and was named by the governor of the then city, Alvizé Rimondi. During Ottoman rule, it had been covered with a vaulted construction (as the drawing illustrates), as the Ottomans used the taps not on the outside, but in sheltered spaces. Today, this dome has been demolished and only a part is preserved.
