KNKT's findings indicate that Lion Air restarted the aircraft despite problems encountered during previous flights. The previous flight was from Denpasar of Bali to Jakarta. "During this flight, the plane had a technical problem but the pilot had decided to continue," Otto said.

The report mentions many maintenance procedures that have been performed to solve the mentioned problems. "In our opinion, the plane was more fit for flying and should not have gone on," he said. The committee's report, however, does not reach this conclusion, but indicates that pilots had difficulty using the automated aircraft badistance system, a new feature of the 737 Max fleet.

The report states that the airline should ensure that the user manual is kept "in order to improve the safety protocol and allow the pilot to make the right decision to continue the flight".

The researchers had revealed that the aircraft during previous flights had technical problems related to the altitude and flight speed meters.

One of the black boxes of the aircraft, and in particular the flight data recorder, has been retracted, but the authorities have not yet identified the recorder with interviews in the post may provide more information on the pilot response.

The families of the victims have sued the Boeing aircraft manufacturer for suspected defects in aircraft design, focusing on the automated security system.

The low-cost airline Lion Air has become a major player in Southeast Asia in recent years.
