Fifty-nine people have already been arrested as part of a major police operation under way since yesterday aimed at dismantling two large criminal organizations that routinely operate in the smuggling of gold transported abroad.
Among those arrested are the owner of a large chain of pawnbrokers, Richard, which has dozens of stores across the country and TV commercials. The well-known pawnbroker served as steward, the jewelery being sent abroad.
It should be noted that in addition to the 59 arrests, jewelery and gold and silver plaques were seized, as well as weapons, large sums of money and a lot of gold.
The operation is led by the Northeast Attica Security Division and the Maroussi Security Department, with the badistance of the Attica Security Directorate and ECAM. At least 150 police officers participated in the investigation and investigations were conducted in Volos and Thessaloniki.
