An insulting insult to Rethimnon by Rachel Makris

The 3rd Rethymnon Primary School was targeted by former MP Rachel Makris during an explosion of nationalists on the same days (it is not a coincidence) practicing medical interventions. extreme right in the educational community. An opportunity for his nasty attack on the parents and teachers of Rethymno was the publication of a school newspaper that depicts the city's monuments of Ottoman rule.

In her article on Facebook, Ms. Makri spoke of "dangerous neo-Ottoman propaganda among young children", while addressing its creators (Association of parents and students).: "Wear a pander in the four rags." What's worse? "

Naturally, a host of demonstrations manifested themselves in Rethymnon and Crete, with teachers and local authorities at least blatantly describing the intervention of the former deputy.

"Rethymno has preserved monuments since Venetian and Ottoman rule. These monuments are exploited and constitute the bridge from yesterday to today. This is the cultural, cultural and historical heritage of Rethymno "Says Pantelis Giannoulakis, a teacher at primary school.

◼ The Mayor of Rethymno, Giorgos Marinakis, gave a clear answer to Ms. Makri:

"For us, these monuments are irrefutable witnesses of the victories won by our place and the struggles of our ancestors for freedom and independence. […] Let each school community quietly inspire students to learn about local history. Regarding your comments on cracking and genesis, we would like you to know that, frankly, they leave us intact, as graphic delusions with nationalistic nuances ", he emphasizes.

However, Ms. Makri was not hurt and continued to challenge. In her new post and in her interviews with Cretan and Athenian radio, she recalled (directly this time) the party she organized in 2017, announcing at that time her foundation of Crete and Melidoni Cave.

"Mayor of Rethymnon, take your calendars, which, after the fierce, vulgar and unprovoked attack on my face, proves that you have been insidiously organized and directed and that you are heading to the grave of 370, the relics sacred women and children from his village From your village »she said, accompanying him with a photo of the opening ceremony that she was holding next to the ossuary!

The fountain of Rimondi

The controversial monument, on the cover of the newspaper, is the Rimondi fountain in the center of Rethymno (the "Vryakia").

It was built in 1926 by the Venetians and was named by the governor of the then city, Alvizé Rimondi. During Ottoman rule, it had been covered with a vaulted construction (as the drawing illustrates), as the Ottomans used the taps not on the outside, but in sheltered spaces. Today, this dome has been demolished and only a part is preserved.

The controversial project is a fantastic representation of the famous Rethimnoni Kostas Daskalakis. It was created five years ago on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the meeting of Crete with Greece, as well as other representations on the monuments and on the historical and cultural road of Rethymnon.

The artist has received extraordinary criticism even from the National Institute of Research and Studies "Eleftherios Venizelos". As it seems, however, he also counted as a school community, without Ms. Rachel Makri …
