No garbage collection will be carried out next Monday, as the city's depots will remain closed as a result of an OTA-WTO decision to protest workplace accidents in cleaning services local authorities.
Following the deadly injuries of a garbage truck driver near the Fyly outlet, as well as the death of a cleaning employee in Aspropyrgos last Friday, the WTO-OTA called the Ministries of Labor and the Interior to be responsible for audits of cleanliness services, and voters "who overly intensify the work of their local government colleagues with the consequences of the death toll".
For the causes of workplace accidents in municipalities, the Federation speaks of intensification of the workforce due to staff shortages, lack of personal protective equipment, non-compliance legislation on hygiene and safety and poorly maintained machinery.
