In fact, the big fire started at 3:00 am last Tuesday, 1,5 km from the village of Makrymalli. Investigations and filings made to date have shown that three different outbreaks have occurred. According to the Free Press newspaper, officials from the Fire Management Division found evidence in three different locations that caused widespread fires near Makrimallis Monastery. This is where the big fire in Evia started on Tuesday morning.

This point is about 1.5 km from the village of Makrimalli. The three fire department firefighters identified traces of arson at three fire sites. At a distance of 100 meters, one near the road and two others 20-30 meters inland in a wooded area. The three suspects of the fire in Evia

The first statement of a suspect fell under the microscope of authorities concerns the arson of Euboea last year, aged 33 years and suffering from serious psychological problems. Arrested on August 26, 2018, he was remanded in custody. Although sentenced to three years in jail, he was released early this summer. Last year, from June 2 to August 12, 9 fires were reported in the larger areas of Psachna, Stavros, Kontodespotio and Makrimalli. His goal was to punish his fellow citizens for violating him.

The other two fire suspect cases being investigated concern two residents of the area. Although they fell into contradictions in what they said in their testimonies, they nonetheless presented an alibi. This is also true for 33-year-olds.
