The arrests took place last night. The police traced the circuit during investigations that began two years ago, immediately after the disintegration of the Roman spiral. In order to know where the flight was going and after intensive monitoring, they managed to map the circuit.
Up to now, more than 68 arrests and additions have been made to this circuit. Among them is the famous pawnbroker Richard (who has more than a hundred gold stores in Athens and in the province).
Circuit action
Virtually the circuit encumbered the jewels, turned them into gold bullion and "pushed" them every day in Turkey.
According to reports, the circuit has sent 100 to 150 kg of gold every day to the neighbor. In a few days, the load was about half a ton!
In order to avoid any suspicion, the gold bullion went to Turkey in unaccompanied packages, which the members of the circuit placed in tourist buses leaving Alexandroupolis.
According to first estimates, the circuit required about 6 million euros per month.
Until now, police officers involved in the giant trade have seized 50 kg of gold for an amount of 1 million euros!
Richard's role
These are basically two circuits. According to the REA-MPA, the group's general manager would be Richard. Police sources said the well-known pawnbroker is involved in a collection chain, a circuit collaborating with law-breaking lawyers who have broken homes or jewelers.
Richard is accused of having collected large amounts of gold with his colleagues from his shops and other pawnbrokers, and then directed them to Turkey and other countries.
The police created "a leaf and a feather", both in the offices of his company and in his luxurious home in the southern suburbs.
At the same time, it is considered that a well-known goldsmith also plays a role in a circuit. In the case, according to the police, other owners of pawnbrokers, foreigners and common criminal law people would also be involved.
At the same time, quantities of gold and silver were seized, as well as weapons, large sums of money and a lot of gold.
The under-security of Northeast Attica and the security department of Maroussi, with the help of the Attic and EKAM Security Directorate, have ensured the dismantling of the two circuits. In total, about 260 police officers participated in the dismantling of the circuit!
Beside the leader, a Turkish-Armenian player played a key role, while Syros would have been the link by which he had taken to collect the gold prizes in order to "push" them into Turkey.
The police seized large quantities of gold, silver, jewelry and weapons.
Those arrested will be presented to the prosecutor today, while the presentation of the case is expected to take place in the afternoon at the General Directorate of the General Police of Attica.
