The head of one of the two major gold smuggling rings dismantled would be, according to information from the Athens-Macedonian News Agency. police sources the owner of a chain of 51-year-old pawnbrokers arrested, with 58 other people, for this extraordinary affair.
According to the same sources relied on by RES, the owner known by television broadcasts pawnbrokers is accused of having collected large amounts of gold with his colleagues from his shops and other pawnbrokers, and then directed them to Turkey and other countries. The police created "a leaf and a feather", both in the offices of his company and in his luxurious home in the southern suburbs. There, according to what ERT reports, there is a million euros.
At the same time, it is considered that a well-known goldsmith also plays a role in a circuit. In the case, according to the police, other owners of pawnbrokers, foreigners and common criminal law people would also be involved.
It should be noted that in addition to the 59 arrests so far, gold and silver have been seized, as well as weapons, large sums of money and a lot of gold.
The company responsible for the dismantling of the two circuits was created by the Northeast Attica Security Division and the Maroussi Security Department, with the badistance of the Attica Security Directorate and ECAM.
Those arrested must be brought before the prosecutor today. The presentation of the case is expected to take place in the afternoon at the headquarters of the General Police of Attica.
