More than a ton of abandoned nets were washed away from a reef at the bottom of the Sea of Stratoni last weekend by Ghost Fishing Greece and Healthy Seas. The action was carried out in collaboration with the local community, with the participation of the AquaTec team and UFR, as well as underwater explorers from northern Greece.

According to Healthy Seas, this reef located in the Stratoni Sea area is home to one of the few hippocampal colonies in Greece, which was the main reason for the cleansing.

During the mission, the 6 divers were able to remove about 30% of the coverage of one of the reefs in the area. "Unfortunately, another reef around the hotel is completely covered by the nets.As it was the last dive of the season for the team in Greece, we plan to return there again. Next year to finish the job and we hope we will be even bigger … wonderful horse population, "says Healthy Seas.

The mosquito nets that I collected will be cleaned by Nofir and then transferred to an Aquafil factory in Slovenia where they will be transformed into high quality yarns.
