New decline in global sales of smart phones and smart tablets

For another quarter, sales of smartphones and tablets declined internationally. Sales of smartphones fell 6 percent and tablets by 8.6 percent compared to the corresponding quarter of 2017, according to IDC.

In the third quarter of this year, 355.2 million smartphones were sold, compared with 377.8 million in the third quarter of 2017. This is the fourth consecutive quarter of declining sales, indicating that the market is waiting a "catalyst" to give it a new impetus. IDC estimates that in 2019, the market will rise again, but this remains to be confirmed.

According to a separate Strategy Analytics study, 360 million smartphones were sold in the third quarter of this year, and the drop was 8% compared to the third quarter of 2017.

According to IDC, Samsung's largest smartphone maker, the global business figure rose to 20.3% in the third quarter of 2018, down 13.4% from the same period from last year. Although Samsung remains in first place, Samsung, which is constantly losing its market share, is getting closer to the second Chinese Huawei's breath (14.6% stake), but "stake" on the new Galaxy Noe 9 increase sales.

In the tablet market, 36.4 million units were sold in the third quarter, compared with 39.9 million in the same period last year (down 8.6%). According to IDC, "the tablet market now looks more like desktop PCs". They both have steadily declining margins and declining sales.

Apple's No. 1 position remains Apple's share with 26.6% (compared to 25.9% in the third quarter of 2017), while Samsung holds a second share of 14.6% (against 15% last year). The next ones are Amazon (12%), Huawei (8.9%) and Lenovo (6.3%).
