At the same time, he stressed that the organ and tissue donor, in addition to its own worth, defends the value of its neighbor and added that organ donation makes the transition from the grand principle from "Love the Allies" to the emblematic principle of "like yourself." "In addition, this attitude of life has nothing to do with believing or not.This is a matter of humanism and solidarity for every man, every society and the world, "said the President of the Republic.
In conclusion, he emphasized that the donation of organs and tissues constituted our elementary debt, especially in the present era where humanism and solidarity, the fundamental principles and values of our culture and of our democracy are contested, even torpedoed.
In his address, the President of the National Transplant Organization and Professor Andreas Karampinis pointed out that from 2007, November 1 of each year was created as a Pan-Hellenic Day of Donation. organs to remind the general public of the importance of organ donation, transplantation gives the precious gift of life to our suffering brothers.
As Karabinis said, organ and tissue donation is the highest form of voluntary offerings and altruism, as well as the basic requirement for achieving the "medical miracle" of transplantation. In fact, he noted that today transplantation is the only therapeutic option for end-stage heart, liver and lung failure, as well as the most effective solution for end-stage renal failure.
He also explained that the donation of organs and tissues involves the donation of organs to be transplanted by a human being (donor) who is no longer alive. In particular, he pointed out that a donor can save up to eight patients in need of an organ transplant and improve their quality of life or even save up to one hundred patients thanks to the gift of tissues.
