Bob Wilson's "Oedipus" begins June 21 and 22 at the Epidaurus Festival 2019, escaping his last aristocratic leadership.

It is a dismantling program officially announced by the artistic director of the festival, Vangelis Theodoropoulos. Also the alternative scene of the National Opera in the small theater of Epidaurus with works by Xenakis, Christos Koumentakis at the "Danaids" of Kalvos led by Natasas Triantafyllis – in support of the spectacular opening of Little Epidaurus.

"It is clear that we consider Epidaurus as a reference in the modern approach of the ancient drama," said Vangelis Theodoropoulos, reinforcing the support of the genre with appearances by Greek and foreign directors who "work in a coherent way, keeping above our living relationships with these texts ".

New translations of works, such as that of George Koropoulis, for "Iketides" of Euripides in the performance of the same name – cooperation of the THOK National Theater, as well as the translation of Pantelis Boukala for "Iphigenia in Avlidi" from the NTUA, or the historian Dimitris Arvanitakis for the "Danaides" of Andreas Kalvos.

At the press conference, the artistic director reported on Epidaurus 2018: "It was a festival-rich summer with highlights and 93,409 spectators attended Epidaure," said Vangelis Theodoropoulos.

The 2019 Athens Festival will be announced in February.
