5GVery soon, in 2019, 5G technology is about to be made available to the public by different vendors. AT & T has already announced the launch of its 5G services by the end of the year.

A report from Fast Company says that Apple plans to launch its first iPhone 5G in 2020. The report also states that the Intel 8161 5G Modem will return to the new iPhone.

This report seems to have some foundation, since another Reuters report states that Apple will make Intel the first cellular modem provider, rejecting Qualcomm.

According to the Fast Company report, "Intel is working on an 8161 precursor called 8060, which will be used to create prototypes and test the new iPhone. The 8161 will be built using Intel's 10-nanometer process, which increases the density of transistors for increased speed and efficiency. "

Apple is unhappy with Intel, the latter having failed to solve heat distribution problems on the 8060 modem chip. However, the problem is not serious enough for Apple to turn to new to Qualcomm for a 5G modem.

As Plan B, Apple has also spoken to MediaTek, another 5G chip provider. However, this collaboration will only work if things do not go well with Intel.
