The CW is officially not moving forward with Green Arrow and the Canaries, its intended spinoff from a long-running superhero series The arrow. Green Arrow and the Canaries aired as an episode of The arrowthe last season of January. The other outstanding CW spin-off, The 100 prequel, which aired as part of the final season of the survival drama, remains in the running.
“They are in the midst of a debate to see what we can do,” CW chairman Mark Pedowitz said in May of the fate of the two projects, produced by Warner Bros. TV. “I’ve had a lot of discussions with Warner Bros, we have a strategy in play – hopefully we can get there.”
I hear the network and the studio explored the idea of Green Arrow and the Canaries and The 100 prequel running jointly on The CW and HBO Max from WarnerMedia. (The arrow and The 100 Stream on Netflix.) With all of the new CW series, after the release deal with Netflix ended, available on HBO Max, this was seen as a viable possibility. It could still happen for The 100 prequel.
With Katherine McNamara, Katie Cassidy and Juliana Harkavy, Green Arrow and the Canaries set in 2040 in Star City and Mia Queen (McNamara) had everything she could have dreamed of. However, when Laurel (Cassidy) and Dinah (Harkavy) suddenly reappear in her life, things take a shocking turn and her perfect world is turned upside down.
Tara Miele directed the episode written by Arrow showrunner Beth Schwartz and co-creator / executive producer Marc Guggenheim, executive producer Jill Blankenship and co-executive producer Oscar Balderrama. The project originates from Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros Television.
