The Green Bay Packers have elevated recent acquisition of cornerback Tramon Williams to their active roster for Sunday’s NFC Championship game with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Williams, who was acquired by the Packers and made part of their practice squad after being called off by the Baltimore Ravens on Monday, could become the first player in NFL history to play for two different teams during the same playoff series.

Williams, 37, made three tackles in the Ravens’ 17-3 AFC Division playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills last week.

Williams previously played for the 2007-14 and 2018-19 Packers, and he was instrumental in the team’s run to Super Bowl 45 with interceptions in playoff games against Philadelphia and Atlanta.

“It’s special,” Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers said of the team’s decision to sign Williams this week. “He’s one of those teammates you love to play with over the years. He’s so professional. The way he takes care of himself, he looks amazing. He looks like he can. playing 70 games for us. I’m not. I’m sure he will or not, I hope he will, because he’s still so talented. But he’s one of those special guys, special personalities. “

“… You think of the 2010 race – he finished a game in Philadelphia; [he] basically gave us a huge jerk in the division round [against Atlanta] with his pick-6. One of my favorite moments in all those moments is watching him pick up that ball and run to the sidelines with Nick Collins to put us 14 in two. So, this is fun. I wish we had done it every year. “

Green Bay may need more depth in the secondary due to the uncertain status of starting cornerback Kevin King, who did not train on Friday due to a back injury, and is considered questionable.

The Packers also elevated defensive lineman Brian Price and cornerback KeiVarae Russell of the practice squad to the active roster for game day. In other moves, they signed punter Ryan Winslow on the practice squad and freed running back Dexter Williams from the practice squad.
