Greenville, SC (FOX Carolina) – On Friday, the Greenville County Coroner's Office announced the name of a woman killed in Greenville following a dog attack.
According to the coroner's office, the 52-year-old victim, identified as Nancy Cherryl Burgess-Dismuke, was attacked Thursday afternoon, Yale Street, Greenville, around 3 pm
Kent Dill, Senior Deputy Coroner, stated that the victim had suffered multiple dog bites in the upper arm resulting in significant blood loss.
According to the sheriff's office, neighbors witnessed the attack and managed to put the victim in the shelter of the dogs and call 911. The investigators say she was struggling with her dogs in the garden before turning against her and becoming aggressive.
We talked to neighbors to fight to save the victim of dogs, here is what they had to say:
The deputies stated that when they arrived at the scene, they applied tourniquets to the victim's arms in order to stop the bleeding.
Dill says the Greenville County Emergency Medical Service treated Burgess-Dismuke at the scene and then was rushed to the Greenville Memorial Hospital, where she died about seven hours later.
According to the coroner's office, several dogs were home at that time, but an autopsy will be needed to determine which dogs were involved in the attack.
The Greenville County Sheriff's Office and the Coroner's Office are still investigating the case.
The neighbors say that Burgess-Dismuke was a very kind woman, and every time you asked for help, she was happy to offer it.
William Long, one of his neighbors, said "She was a very kind woman, and every time you asked for help, she gave you help, she did not ask her, she did not ask. is not out and has not raised a cane about it.If she can give you a little help, she will. "
Denzel Whiteside, another neighbor, says he's been trying to help get the dogs out of Burgess-Dismuke.
"I did everything I could." he said. "We pray for the family, I hope they'll come out and we'll be there to support them along the way."
