GRID Reboot coming on September 13th: Fernando Alonso will be in the poster

A racing franchise returns with a new title in September. Codemasters unveiled GRID, the next unnumbered iteration of the eponymous series.

With GRIDplayers will tackle the tarmac in a mix of circuits, city streets and point-to-point amenities. They will participate in a single-player campaign for the chance to face Fernando Alonso and his FA Racing Esports team.

More than 70 cars, 12 locations, variable weather / weather

GRID will feature more than 70 modern cars from manufacturers around the world. Given the name of the game, the cars shown up here are more geared towards motorsport, with GTE drivers and classics like the GT40. For the first time in the franchise, Porsche will be officially introduced with the 911 RSR engine confirmed in these first shots.

Players will find 12 places in GRID master their machines. The titles will include Brands Hatch – the core product, it seems – of Shanghai, Indy and others. One of the images announced also confirms San Francisco. Each location will have several layouts.

Perhaps most surprisingly, the tracks will present a varied time and time. It is not yet clear whether this will change or not during the race.

Codemasters promises realistic damage in GRID as well. Moreover, according to the communique, "too many contacts with the same runner will see them emerge as a sworn enemy who will stop at nothing to take his revenge in the race".

A car confirmed in the official announcement should pique the interests of readers. The car Renault R26 F1 Fernando Alonso, the car with which he won the championship in 2006, will appear in GRID as good as F1 2019 this year. The man himself will be in GRID also, and you will aim to run against him.

Fernando Alonso will be your rival

Alonso signed as a race consultant for GRID. Throughout the match, the players will face the FA Racing Esport double spying, before finally having the chance to run against Alonso himself in the R26.

"Having competed in F1, endurance and in stock, GRID is the perfect game for me," said Alonso. "I am delighted that the studio has added both my race team and myself. GRID offers so much variety and I am happy to take up the challenge when players line up against me. "

Confirmed post-launch content

Codemasters games have generally not had much DLC of this generation. DiRT Rally 2.0 changed that with his approach of the season, and it seems that Codies continues with GRID. A list of Amazon UK for the game indicates that the Ultimate Edition will include access to three seasons of content:

  • Season 1: Hypercar Track Day Pack
  • Season 2: Track Racing Pack
  • Season 3: GT Track Day Pack

There are no more details on what these packs will include. In addition to the above, Ultimate Edition owners will benefit from three-day advance access, as well as unique versions of cars, player cards, player banners and existing liveries.

GRID completes the British developer's three-part attack on race genre, completing DiRT Rally 2.0 and the next F1 2019. This will be the first new game of the longstanding franchise in half a decade. The last title, GRID Autosport, arrived in 2014 and will appear on Nintendo Switch this summer. The franchise started technically in 1997 with TOCA Touring Car Championship, making it one of the oldest franchises still active, ahead of Need for Speed.

GRID launches September 13 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Stay tuned for more news on the title as the date approaches.
