Tuesday night’s preseason game between the Memphis Grizzlies and the Milwaukee Bucks was called before the start of the fourth quarter, and fans were evacuated from the FedEx Forum after an inadvertent fire alarm went off. The Grizzlies have announced Pete Pranica said on the team show that the NBA made the decision not to restart the game after a long delay.
At the end of the third quarter, with the Grizzlies leading 87-77, an alarm went off and flashing lights began to flash inside the arena. Fans were asked to leave the building and the teams and officials left the pitch to return to their respective locker rooms.
According to a report by Stéphanie Ready on the TNT show, the sprinkler system tripped in a non-public area, triggering the alarm. Fortunately, there was no danger to anyone, but firefighters were called in according to protocols.
The Bucks clearly weren’t interested in waiting to see when or if they could replay. They started packing almost immediately after returning to the locker room and were in formal attire and had dinner long before the league officially called off the rest of the game.
Ja Morant led the Grizzlies with 27 points, six rebounds and four three-quarter assists. A number of players from both teams weren’t playing, including Dillon Brooks and Brandon Clarke for the Grizzlies. Meanwhile, the Bucks were without Giannis Antetokounmpo, Khris Middleton, Jrue Holiday and Bobby Portis.
