President Donald Trump is planning an “elaborate, military-style dispatch” for himself ahead of President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration on January 20, according to ABC News.

Trump is hoping to walk down a red carpet while a military band plays, sources familiar with the plans told the broadcaster.

He even discussed an air parade by US Air Force fighter jets, ABC News said.

It was also reported that Trump had asked about the possibility of a 21-gun salute, according to the Associated Press.

The president plans to leave Washington, DC, before Biden is sworn in to avoid having to apply to borrow Air Force One, CNN reported on Friday.

He is expected to leave for Mar-a-Lago on Wednesday morning, according to Bloomberg.

Trump’s decision not to attend Biden’s inauguration will make him the first outgoing president to skip the ceremony in more than 150 years.

In 2017, Barack Obama attended the inauguration and then left for the east side of the Capitol by helicopter. A week earlier, he had bid farewell to the nation with a low-key public speech in his hometown of Chicago.

Trump will be going against tradition by skipping the grand opening and creating a split screen moment on the day of the opening.

The president is hoping to eclipse Biden’s ceremony by simultaneously hosting a televised political rally in Florida, sources told Axios last month.

Biden’s groundbreaking plans will be clean and socially distanced but, nonetheless, strewn with stars.

Its inaugural committee announced that there will be performances by Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez and Justin Timberlake on Thursday.

It will feature a mix of virtual and in-person events and broadcast on social media and cable TV.

Due to fears for safety after the siege of Captiol, law enforcement has stepped up security for the event and the FBI is monitoring the movements of the far right.
