In January 1993, Hai Van Huynh opened fire in the corridor of the George L. Allen Sr. Courts building in Dallas, mortally killing his wife, Ly Dang, and wounding a passerby. He died later of a self-inflicted bullet wound.

On July 1, 1992, George Lott opened fire inside the Tarrant County Courthouse, killing two lawyers, seriously wounding two appellate judges and protecting another lawyer. He died by lethal injection two years later.

Lott had been indicted a few months earlier for aggravated sexual assault following allegations that he allegedly sexually assaulted his son at a motel in Peoria, Illinois, according to police and police records. court. Attorney Jim Owens of Peoria, where his son lived, was scheduled to be tried on July 24.
